A Brief History of Children’s Resource Center
1972
The Wood County Community Mental Health Board formed a subcommittee known as the Wood County Children’s Services Association. This subcommittee was part of the Association for Children's Services of Northwest Ohio, which developed a proposal for mental health services and facilities for the children of Northwest Ohio.
1974
Proposal was complete on May 20, 1974. This proposal put forth the development of a multi-service center for children to be located in Wood County. The Wood County Children’s Services Assocation opened an office in Bowling Green and began to provide limited services.
1976
The Association incorporated as a private, non-profit corporation on March 24, 1976. Development of the multi-service center for children continued.
1977
Ground broke for the 15,400 square foot facility in August 1977. The facility was designed to house mental health prevention programs, outpatient programs, classes for severely behaviorally handicapped students, and a residential unit.
1978
The facility weas completed by August 1978. The multi-service center for children was named the Children’s Resource Center (CRC) located at 1045 Klotz Rd. in Bowling Green, OH. Services have operated out of the facility continuously ever since.
1993
In February, 1993, a 14,500 square foot addition was completed to house expanded Day Treatment services as well as a renovation of the existing facility.
2014
In February, 2014, the Residential Treatment facility underwent a renovation including an expansion from a six bed unit to an eight bed single room facility. Additionally, at that time, the facility became a locked unit, providing the security necessary to serve higher acuity clients.
2024
In partnership with the Wood County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board, CRC received funding for the construction on a Youth Crisis Center as part of the $90 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds by the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health. The center includes a Crisis Residential Unit (CRU), consisting of ten traditional CRU beds and six intensive care beds for youth who may not be able to manage living in congregate living without putting themselves or others at risk. It also features two 23-hour crisis observation rooms to support in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders. In addition, this project include the establishment of a youth psychiatric urgent care to be integrated within the existing agency facility.
